The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

I thought I had read this a long time ago but after the first couple of chapters I realized I didn't remember any of it. I recognized many parts of it as I've heard it frequently quoted. It was a really fun read! It's brit humor (think futuristic Monty Python) so it's quirky and silly. I'll probably start the sequel next.
